Boc Pagoda in Hanoi
Boc Pagoda (Sung Phuc Tu) is located on Chua Boc Street, Dong Da district. From Sword Lake, take Trang Thi Street to Tran Phu Street and then Nguyen Thai Hoc Street to turn left onto Ton Duc Thang Street. Go along it and then Nguyen Luong Bang Street. As soon as passing Dong Da Hillock, one can see Chua Boc Street. The interior was built under the Posterior Le Dynasty (1427-1789).
The architectural layout of the pagoda includes a three-entrance portico, a main sanctuary, a patriarch worshipping house, and a large stupa garden. In front of the portico is a pond, formerly called Bathing Elephant Pond. The pond is related to the battle waged by King Quang Trung, a great Vietnamese national hero, against the Qing invaders in the is- century. Boc Pagoda still preserves precious artifacts including Buddhist statues, and three ancient steles dating back to 1676, 1686, and 1792 and recording the pagoda’s history and the great offensive against the Qings by King Quang Trung.
