Bat Thap Pagoda in Hanoi
Bat Thap Pagoda (Van Bao Tu) is located in Doi Can Street, Ba Dinh district, about’ 3km west of Sword Lake. The pagoda was built on a low hill called Van Bao. It was built in the Ly-Tran period roughly 1,000 years ago. The pagoda has a tower, the pedestal of which resembles a bowl. Hence, its name “Bat Thap” (Bowl-shaped Tower). It faces south and has a three-entrance portico, a main sanctuary, a patriarch worshipping house, and a backyard garden. The main sanctuary occupies the highest position on Van Bao hill. In the pagoda there are still many
carved statues and, artifacts dating a few hundred years ago.
