Air Force Museum Hanoi
This is one or the larger museums in the country and, though seldom visited by foreigners, it’s very worthwhile if you are a war history or aircraft buff.
The Air Force Museum (Bao Tang Khong Quan) has many or its exhibits outdoors. This includes a number of Soviet-built MiG fighters, reconnaissance planes, helicopters and anti-aircraft equipment. Inside the museum hall are other weapons, including mortars, machine guns and some US-made bombs (hopefully defused). There is a partially truncated MiG with a ladder – you can climb up into the cockpit and have your photo taken. The museum has other war memorabilia, including paintings of obvious Soviet design and portraits of Ho Chi Minh.
The Air Force Museum, on D Truong Chinh in the Dong Da District (fur southwest – see the Central Hanoi map), is open daily from 8 to 11 am and 1 to 5 pm. Entry costs 5000d (US$0.40).
